Jean-Claude Bélégou Nevermore: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW 2015/2016

 

 

In addition to iconography, genre, or purpose, any series or cycle is the occasion for the setting up of a new system and a new formal research. It is through this ensemble and this constant quest that the work makes sense.

While The Humbles or the Rooms are slow meditations on the variations of the lights of the day, as well as the hours, the seasons or the orientations, the recent series Summer Nights, Professionals, Here Now, Somewhere Else try to rethink The effects of flash light, this specifically photographic scalpel, as it had been used previously in series with close-up movements in frozen movements such as Water (1985/86) of the winter / day flash combinations in Erres / Towards The Far North in 1992, the strokes of The Glory of the World in 1999, then the self-portraits to the models of the Artist & Model series 2004 and the Artist'studio in 2009.

Here now and elsewhere form a diptych based on a common light (that of the flash of direct flash with what it can have of derealizing in its rapidity - freezing the movements - as well as in its particular way of producing Colors and perspective as frank oppositions between shadow and light) and the opposition of places and strategies: to remain and persist / to leave and to abandon …
